Longest Range Walkie Talkie

difference and the encounter (1)

José Ignacio López Soria

In "The mediation of the word, a text that begins to Tales Ecuador-Peru. 1998-2008, I mean the background anthologies immediate report today. In September 2007, the Centro Cultural Inca Garcilaso, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru and the Organization of Iberoamerican States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), we agreed to organize together, with the close collaboration Embassy of Ecuador in Peru, represented by Ambassador Diego Ribadeneira, the meeting "The word neighbor", which brought together novelists, poets and essayists Ecuador and Peru. Converted into a book, the word was presented in Quito neighbor in 2008. Shortly thereafter, the ambassador Ribadeneira y Gabriela Falconi, aggregate culture, I proposed to continue this process cultural encounters, taking into account the upcoming commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the peace agreements between Peru and Ecuador and the bicentennial of independence. So we did and the result is the short story and poetry anthologies presented today and the CD "Romance of our destiny" with Ecuadorian and Peruvian songs, which were interpreted in Lima to celebrate the bicentennial of the independence of Ecuador.

external data or "general law" as they say in legal terms, the anthologies are very simple. The anthology brings together 22 stories of the past 10 years -11 of authors and 11 Peruvians, Ecuadorians, occupational type selected by the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Gabriela Falconi Carlos Yushimoto, after consultation with experts from here and there. In the anthology of poetry together poems of 20 poets in each country, chosen by Karina Marin, Quito, and Carlos Villacorta, Lima.

in the respective introductions, the anthology give reason to the selection criteria and place both the stories and poems in their own narrative or poetic traditions. The publication, which is the responsibility of the Embassy of Ecuador in Peru and the editorial [sic], has the support of OEI, the Andean Community, the AECI, Universidad Alfredo Perez Guerrero and the group Bicentennial. The two anthologies have been delivered on September 23 in Quito.

If juntásemos creations of the 22 narrators, 40 poets, 12 authors collected in the book The word neighbor and 12 musical compositions on the CD "Romance of our destiny", we would caution that we circulated among a small but still significant sample of shared artistic expressions that enrich the cultural heritage of Peru and Ecuador. I can not say, however, that these actions continue a tradition of cultural outreach has long been convinced that, to cite just a moment in recent history has the friendship and exchanges between artists and Victor Osvaldo Guayasamín Dolphin mutually recognized landmark. Described

external aspects of the anthologies, I wonder why I call for me, I deal with the thought that these clusters of poems and stories. The first thing I say is that they are a feast of words, and words, I would add, is the most precious legacy we receive from the world we belong and by which we belonged. For it is with the language we speak and that we speak to the world we experience and truth. The fact that we shared language and heritage helps us talk, share information, knowledge and sensitivities, building consensus, etc.. and therefore rich. But what enriches us, when it comes to language, is spoken by the other knowing that we learn to live with dissent, to appear at the difference, embrace diversity, manifested in speech, as a source of dynamism and joy, because the word of others, when it is really nearby and listens, opens us to new sensibilities, new symbolic world, to new dimensions of human experience.

I know that is not the time for philosophical disquisition, but let me stress the importance of the difference because I see that the difference of language is precisely one of the characteristics of the anthologies that present.

Generally, when two people with similar histories and cultural components often come to discuss putting forward something that resembles the approach to facilitate and pave the way for understanding. I am not, of course, the usefulness of such a procedure, but I know a little when what is sought in the coupling is not to build upon the political and cognitive consensus but to promote the enrichment of the sensitivities and call to mind. When it comes to this, of daring to think and think, of being unwilling or spoken by other forms of expression, to be touched by other sensitivities, the difference is richer than the similarity. The similarity allows us to speak with the other, the difference will feel invited to speak for him. The path of the similarity leads us to the other as an alter ego, and this is not little because it is directly related to the dignity we attach as a person, but only those who dare to travel on the roads of the difference is with the other in the field of their own cultural property and enjoy them with him. I mean, when building cultural spaces similarities prioritizing meeting not respect goes beyond that which reflects, in its way, the image we have of ourselves, but when what is prioritized is the difference and we are not, as would Arguedas, "shackled by selfishness" not tied to traditions unshakable, that difference becomes a source of joy because we are spoken by her and called to see ourselves differently, to discover in ourselves that we were unknown dimensions.

I invite you therefore to read the anthologies enjoying these differences, leaving captivated by her charms and call for the worlds rich symbolic and linguistic resources which are carriers.

The Organization of American States supports initiatives such as this meeting today because it is aware of its role as facilitator of meeting spaces, while respecting differences and understanding them even as a source of joy and enrichment, broaden perspectives and strengthen, in the key integrative policies of the countries of the region in the fields of education, science and culture. At this time, we also have a special reason to engage with these initiatives. Since the first public demonstration of the will juntista America in 1809 in Quito until the Battle of Ayacucho in 1824 are three decades of a process that ends defining independence exactly two hundred years ago. We are therefore in the bicentennial year of independence, but also the dawn of liberalism and the planting of modernity in the region, including of course Spain and Portugal, ie we are today two hundred years of a historical period can not be understood but regionally and, therefore, calls us to think together and propose shared similar goals of human development, especially in the field of education. And this is precisely what they have done recently the ministers of education in our countries, with the knowledge of officers to instruct the OEI, in coordination with the Ministries of Education, the design and implementation of the mega-project "Educational Goals 2021: The education they want for the generation of the bicentennial. "

Program No 9 of this mega project is responsible for arts education, culture and citizenship, from the belief that learning the art and culture is one of the most powerful strategies for building cross-cultural citizenship is an overrun in the old concept of tolerance to be enriched with the dignified and joyful living diversity.

with texts such as those present today, the OEI is added, then, the effort being made by countries in the region to make the bicentennial a propitious time to build and institutionalize meeting areas from the similarities we share as inheritance and the differences that enrich us.
