What was the strange fire that Nadab and Abihu offered?

Leviticus Ch. 10

a) Why did God send opinion on these two priests? .- The Bible says only that "implies that offered fire (God) never sent ..." There have been several explanations for this:

1st. Possibly taken in their censers common fire and not the fire of the altar of burnt offering. The obligation was to take fire from the altar, as this had been kindled by God himself (Lev. 16:12; Num 16:46).

2nd. Maybe they were drunk, and this, precisely, led them to offer strange fire. This explanation does not contradict the previous one, but adds the causes. This shows you the following instructions given by God about eating and drinking alcoholic beverages before minister (Lev. 6:13, 9:24, 5:9).

3o. He also indicated that it may have been a rivalry between the two to offer both, simultaneously the fire that apparently did a single officiating. For example, in Luke 1:9, was a priest, Zechariah, who officiated at the altar.

4th. It is argued that perhaps they tried to take or usurp the place of the high priest, but by the example of Zechariah we see that, apparently, lighting the fire was not absolute prerogative of the High Priest.

b) Was the punishment too severe? NO. We understand that the priests were invested with authority and responsibility was too great to afford to fail, because in his sacrilegious act they were to engage the nation they represented. God wanted to teach that He is holy and can not play with his holiness.

c) What practical lessons are drawn from this?

Hoff says:

"He teaches ministers to have reverence and care in carrying out divine instructions and requirements. Neither the Divine Office itself, nor the ministerial success as an excuse to neglect the spiritual life.
is illustrated the relationship between privilege and responsibility to Luke 12:48.

how bad is drawn to the sight of God to replace (or mix) with sacred things carnal. Throughout history of the Church, men have replaced the Gospel with tradition, the cult of heart with the rites, the gospel of salvation through the gospel of good works and the fire of spirit with the fire of religious passion.

The sacred place is above most intimate human relationships. Aaron was to leave any sign of mourning to show their loyalty to God.
No person is indispensable. Half of the priests of that time were removed but it was the worship of the Tabernacle. "
